Course Objective

The aim of this course is to examine and analyze the phenomenon of learning and teaching in childhood from a cognitive and biological perspective, focusing on the alignment between these factors and how children perceive a foreign language in parallel with their native language education. The course also aims to teach the techniques of foreign language learning and teaching for children of all ages, as well as to equip prospective teachers with the methods and techniques for lesson delivery and application for students of this age group.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Summarize significant cognitive (neuro) biological developmental stages.
2   Describe and classify important stages of first language acquisition
3   Identify and describe central stages in second language acquisition
4   Summarize and compare national and international foreign language programmes
5   Design teaching materials for children of different ages and different language levels applying various teaching methods

The success of the student is determined by the midterm and final exam grades. Apart from this, there is no special evaluation criterion.
