Course Objective

The objective of this lesson is to introduce basic concepts such as the relationship between education and technology, the historical developments in instructional technology, technology policies in Türkiye after 1980 s, technological applications and projects, new literacies related with technology, technological developments and projects, students characteristics in the 21st century, basics of and developments in computer and information technologies in education, instructional mediums and devices, and projections regarding the future of instructional technology.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   to be able to define the basic concepts of education, training, learning, technology, educational technology, instructional technology, system, system approach
2   to be able to make comments for the future by examining the historical stage and point of instructional technologies
3   to be able to relate learning theories with instructional technologies
4   Knows the application areas of instructional technologies

2 Basic concepts of education, teaching, learning, technology, educational technology, instructional technology, system, system approach
3 Historical stages of instructional technologies - Visual teaching movement (before 20th century)
4 Historical stages of instructional technologies- Audio Visual Instruction movement- 1900-1965
5 Historical stages of instructional technologies - Instructional Systems Development Movement (1965-Present)
6 Development of Instructional Technologies in Türkiye
7 Charting the historical development of instructional technologies
8 General review, course evaluation and midterm exam
9 Characteristics of 21st century students, Digital native/immigrant concepts and features and Net Generation features (independent learning, digital literacy, experiential learning and multitasking), advanced information technology skills and social inclusion features
10 Teaching with computers (BDE, BDI) and the Internet
11 Learning theories - behavioral learning theory and its relationship with instructional technologies
12 Learning theories- cognitive learning theory and its relationship with instructional technologies
13 Learning theories - constructivist learning theory and its relationship with learning technologies
14 Application areas of instructional technologies
15 Final
