Course Objective

The aim of this course is to develop problem solving skills related to the basic concepts in the secondary chemistry curriculum; to enable students to analyse misconceptions, to solve chemical problems in a structured way and to make student-centred problem solving instructional designs.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Analyses problems related to chemistry subjects at secondary education level and develops solution strategies. .
2   Identifies conceptual errors in the solution process of chemistry problems and suggests corrective teaching methods.
3   Uses scientific process skills (analysing, hypothesising, evaluating data, etc.) effectively in the problem solving process.
4   Develops student-centred instructional designs (inquiry-based teaching, cooperative learning, etc.) through chemistry problems.
5   Establishes a relationship between chemistry problems and daily life events, industrial applications and environmental problems.
