Course Objective

The aim of this course is to reveal the pedagogical processes involved in teaching science content and practices in an integrated manner with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines, through technology/engineering design-based approaches in science education.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understand the importance of science and engineering practical knowledge and skills
2   Designing an activity and develop a worksheet based on steps of science and engineering practices.
3   Developing an insight into the pedagogy of STEM learning model and to enrich their theoretical knowledge and the importance of STEM learning.
4   Engaging practices by taking steps to develop and implement a STEM based engineering design process including the process of definition and research the problem, determine possible solutions, development and implementation a plan, evaluation, reflection and improvement.
5   Developing basic professional skills - oral and written communication skills, collaboration skills, research (gathering information) skills, problem solving, creative thinking, critical thinking, adaptability, initiative and entrepreneurialism through STEM learning.
6   Engaging real world problem solving process with an understanding of multidisciplinary insight into various fundamental sciences, mathematics, environmental, social, cultural, economic and ethical issues through STEM learning.
7   Engaging learners as active learners through STEM based learning as a means to construct their own knowledge, enhance their interest toward science, and competency in science concepts and nature of science.
8   Developing skills of problem solving, creative thinking, critical thinking, and information skills to investigate, draw conclusions about, decision-making process and create content through STEM learning.
9   Providing an extended process of scientific inquiry in response to real world and authentic problems and controversial socio-scientific issues through STEM based learning.
10   Encouraging learners be able to foster an aspiration in serving as a model to adopt STEM learning as teachers for their students in their classroom practices.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

The homeworks will be assessed by directly adding to the mid-term scores. The exam dates will be indicated in the lesson plan. As the exam dates become definite, the previously announced dates may change.

Assessment Criteria

The basic learning outcomes of course will be assessed by exams, homeworks, portfolios and projects.

It is obligated to continue to at least 70% of lessons.
Every trial to copying will be finalized with disciplinary proceedings.
The instructor has right to make quizzes. The scores obtained from quizzes will be directly added to exam scores.
