Course Objective

The aim of this course is to enable science education teacher candidates to scientifically explain, using the theory of evolution and within the scope of their biology knowledge, the diversity of life forms, the similarities within this diversity, and the sequential changes in the fossil record as observable scientific facts; and to demonstrate, through anatomical and molecular evidence, that various lines of descent have branched off from one another, resulting from natural selection and adaptation to different environmental changes.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Learning how does science works and what are the differences between scientific and non scientific
2   Understanding that evolution is change over time
3   Explaining the evidence for evolution
4   Understanding that genetic variation is essential for evolution
5   Explaining how evolution results from natural selection avting upon genetical variatin within a population
6   Knowing that adaptations are maintained in communities by natural selection.
7   Explaining that species are formed by natural selection on heritable traits in changing environments
