Course Objective

Learning to critically review articles in the dental literature, find high-quality evidence-based research in dental practice, and put this evidence into practice.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explains the basic concepts and importance of evidence-based dentistry.
2   Identifies ethical principles in evidence-based practice.
3   Analyzes types of misleading and bias in scientific research.
4   Creates and applies research questions in PICO format.
5   Conducts literature searches appropriate to the PICO question in digital databases.
6   Evaluates the importance of randomized controlled trials.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The lesson will be presented in class. Lecture notes will be given to students. Students will follow the lesson from their lecture notes and textbooks.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Midterm Exam (40%) + Final (60%)

Assessment Criteria

The course grade is determined by calculating 40% of the midterm examination and 60% of the final examination. A resit examination is administered for students who do not pass.
