Course Objective

It is aimed for students to explain pain and pain management methods, to diagnose patients with pain symptoms accurately, and to perform appropriate treatments.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explains the definition, history, and physiological, sensory, and behavioral components of pain.
2   Classifies pain according to time, mechanism, and origin.
3   Defines types of pain related to oral structures such as teeth, mucosa, jawbone, and temporomandibular joint.
4   Explains trigeminal neuralgia and other neuralgic pains with their distinguishing features.
5   Analyzes the difference between referred pain and primary pain.
6   Explains the measurement tools (e.g., scales) used in pain assessment.
7   Compares the measurement tools (e.g., scales) used in pain assessment.
8   Selects appropriate treatment approaches for different types of dental pain.
9   Examines appropriate diagnostic and treatment approaches in complex pain conditions.
