Course Objective

The aim is to provide a comprehensive education on orthodontic treatment, treatment methods, terminology, jaw growth and development processes, the etiology of malocclusions, and clinical evaluation parameters in orthodontics.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Defines orthodontics and explains orthodontic treatment methods.
2   Explains growth and development mechanisms and the development of craniofacial structures.
3   Defines the concept and terminology of malocclusion.
4   Classifies malocclusions and explains their etiology.
5   Applies anamnesis, clinical, and radiographic evaluation methods in orthodontics.
6   Defines the basic principles of cephalometric analyses and different analysis methods.
7   Explains the films and techniques used to determine biological age.
8   Evaluates and analyzes sagittal, vertical, and horizontal directional problems as a whole.

Assessment Criteria

1. The student should be able to diagnose the patient's skeletal and dentoalveolar anomaly with cephalometric film drawings.
2. The student should be able to determine the stage of growth and development of the patient with hand-wrist films.
