Course Objective

This course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental concepts and historical development of animal breeding. The genetic structures, productivity traits, and breeding methods of commonly raised animal breeds in Türkiye and worldwide are examined in detail. Critical concepts such as heritability, repeatability, genetic progress, selection, pure breeding, and crossbreeding techniques are covered. Additionally, the effects of environmental factors and the importance of genetic correlations are emphasized, equipping students with the skills to develop effective and sustainable breeding programs.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Knows the development of animal breeding from the past to the present and the animal breeding studies conducted in Türkiye.
2   Knows characters and lethal genes in animal husbandry
3   Calculates breeding value, heritability, and repeatability in domestic animals
4   Knows selection and selection methods.
5   Knows the breeding methods in animal husbandry
6   Knows genetic progress, phenotypic correlations, and genotypic correlatio
7   Knows how to eliminate the effects of environmental factors
