Course Objective

This course provides knowledge and skills about the structure and properties of microorganisms, the classification of microorganisms, the definition and mechanisms of infection, the diseases caused by microorganisms, and the ways of prevention and control.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Will be able to define the basic structures of microorganisms
2   Will be able to list the general characteristics of microorganisms, metabolism, development conditions, necessary conditions for the isolation of microorganisms.
3   Will be able to summarize the ways of transmission and protection of microorganisms.
4   Will be able to explain microbe host relationship and basic concepts related to oral flora.
5   Will be able to explain the production of microorganisms and effective environmental factors.
6   Will be able to summarize the role of bacteria in the pathogenesis of tooth decay.
7   They will be able to list the mechanisms of action of antibiotics and the stages of resistance development.
8   They will be able to comprehend host defense mechanisms.

1. Attendance at 70% of the classes is mandatory.
2. Any act of cheating will result in a disciplinary investigation.
3. The faculty member reserves the right to conduct practical exams. Grades from these exams will be added to the midterm and final exam grades.
