Course Objective

This course aims to provide pre-service special education teachers with the opportunity to actively participate in real classroom environments within special education institutions or inclusive settings. It is designed to help students develop professional teaching skills, observe instructional processes, contribute to individualized education plan (IEP) development, and reflect on their roles as future educators.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Observe teaching practices in special education settings.
2   Analyze classroom management and teaching strategies used by experienced teachers.
3   Participate in the development and implementation of IEPs.
4   Assist in instructional activities and support students directly.
5   Identify ethical responsibilities in the teaching profession.
6   Develop individualized teaching materials.
7   Conduct self-assessment regarding teaching practices.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Introduction to the course, planning of the practicum process, overview of ethical principles and professional teaching standards
2 Familiarization with the practicum school, observation of school structure and institutional culture
3 Observation of classroom environment, student profiles, and teacher responsibilities
4 Review of lesson planning and instructional materials used in special education settings
5 Observation of teaching strategies and individualized instruction practices in special education
6 Observation of IEP preparation process and integration of individual goals into instruction
7 Active participation in classroom activities under mentor teacher supervision; student interaction
8 Implementation of micro-teaching activities planned by the student teacher
9 Receiving feedback from university supervisor and reflecting on teaching practices
10 Observation and documentation of teaching practices in various classrooms and student groups
11 Development of instructional plans and materials, preparation for classroom implementation
12 Implementation of planned activity in the classroom; evaluation by mentor teacher
13 Completion of practicum file and self-evaluation of practicum experience
14 Final evaluation meeting, submission of reports, and closing of practicum period

Confidentiality and ethical standards must be upheld throughout the course.

Observations and activities must be documented and submitted on time.

All practicum work is monitored by both university supervisors and mentor teachers.

Practicum journals and final reports must be submitted in full by the end of the semester.
