Course Objective

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basic of commercial bank management and to provide necessary theoratical and practical backround to analyze the financial statements of commercial banks.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Acquire basic knowledge about the characteristics of commercial banks, techniques of fund management in commercial banking,
2   To be able to analyze the performance of the bank by applying economic tools to their financial statements,
3   To establish an ability to relate banking system in Türkiye to the rest of the economic system to be able to comprehend the reasons for banking crisis.

Assessment Criteria

1. The learner will compare the structure of banking industry in Türkiye and in the other countries.
2. The learner will demonstrate understanding of balance sheet items of the commercial banks by calculating different performance ratios.
3. The learner will explain different asset and liability management techniques of commercial banks.
4. The learner will explain the role of commercial banks in financial crisis.
