Course Objective

The aim of the course is to acquire knowledge of the various language characteristics of the texts on management and logistics, and their implications for translation (in terms of cultural differences, content, word choice, text function, syntactic patterns, information structure, etc.) and terminology.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   acquire the ability of developing the methodology of translation (in terms of cultural differences, content, word choice, text function, syntactic patterns, information structure, etc.) and terminology / terminography characteristic of the texts on management and logistics.
2   compare the structures and basic concepts of different economic systems.
3   acquire a deeper awareness of the practical research and documentation techniques necessary to find solutions for translation problems in the field.
4   utilize the specialized terminology in actual translation situations in a variety of texts on economics and management both in English and Turkish.
5   acquire and use specialized terminology of economics in text production.

Assessment Criteria

1. Two midterm exams and a final exam will be given throughout the term.
2. Students are expected to come class translated the texts that are assigned to them weekly and to participate in class discussions and practices. Students are also expected to submit a homework based on group research.
