Course Objective

The aim of this course is to study Mesopotamian, Egyptian and Anatolian Civilizations and to discuss historical problems of these cultures from Stone age to Byzantine period according to historical texts and archaeological data

Week Subject Description 1 Ancient Near Eastern History and presentation of relevant resources. General geography and chronology of Ancient Near Eastern 2 Geography of Mesopotamia. Prehistory of Mesopotamia: Hassine, Samarra, Halaf and Ubaid cultures 3 Date of eras in the prehistoric era, Uruk and Jamdat Nasr cultures. Uruk urban revolution model. 4 Historic Ages: Early Dynastic Period (Sumerian civilization) 5 Akkad and III. Ur of the Dynastic Period. (Political and cultural events) 6 BC 2 A thousand years of Mesopotamian Civilization: soot Larsa, Assyria, Babylon, Mari. (M.Ö.1900-1600) by Murshili conquest of Babylon in 1595. 7 Late Neo-Assyrian and Babylonian periods 8 Chronology of the ancient Near East and the Mediterranean region. Eastern Mediterranean Prehistory (Natufy and Jericho examples) 9 BC 3 Thousand years and 2 Thousand years communities and states (Ebla, Mari, Amurri examples) 10 Early Prehistory of Iran. Proto-Elamite and Elamite period. (3200-539 BC) (especially in connection with the Mesopotamian civilization and politics will be discussed). 11 Iran: BC Civilizations between 850-MS651 year: Manna, Med, Achaemenid, Selevkid, Part and Sasser Persians. 12 Early Prehistory of Iran. Proto-Elamite and Elamite period.
