Course Objective

It is to examine historical and social dimensions of Turkish modernity in relation to problems of contemporary Turkish society.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   apprehend the starting-points of Turkish modernization
2   establish relations between historical background of Turkish modernity and contemporary Türkiye
3   explain the similarities and differences between Turkish modernity and Western modernity
4   be able to consider the present-day social problems in the context of modernization
5   compare the different perspectives on Turkish modernization
6   be able to provide the ideas in terms of solving the present-day problems of Turkish society
