Course Objective

In this course, research methods and techniques used in the field of social sciences will be discussed theoretically. Ontological, epistemological and methodological approaches in social sciences will be discussed.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Learning the stages of scientific research
2   Mastering the methods, techniques, data collection, data analysis and data analysis processes of qualitative, quantitative, mixed and action research
3   Gaining the ability to write a scientific research report
4   With Maxqda and Nvivo software in order to realize effective analysis of scientific research methods
5   The use of Mendeley and Citavi, which are scientific reference software programs, will be activated.

1 The relationship between ontology, epistemology and methodology in social sciences
2 The relationship between ontology, epistemology and methodology in social sciences
3 Basic concepts in research methods and techniques and stages of scientific research.
4 Selection of research topic and writing research question(s).
5 Literature review and critical writing. Use and advantages of Mendeley and Citavi software, which are reference tracking systems.
6 Methodological approaches in social sciences 1: Quantitative methods
7 Methodological approaches in social sciences 2: Qualitative methods
8 Methodological approaches in social sciences 3: Mixed methods
9 Midterm
10 Methodological approaches in social sciences 4: Action research
11 Sampling, universe and sampling techniques
12 Research techniques (Questionnaire, in-depth interview, focus group interview, research diaries etc.).
13 Analysis of research findings
14 Writing the research report
15 General Evaluation
