Course Objective

Ionia has been a very important region in almost every period of history. The course aims to examine the ceramic groups, their similarities and differences, and the changes in production techniques in the historical process by examining all types of ceramics in the Ionia region from the Geometric period to the Byzantine period after the Hellenes arrived with the Aegean migrations.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To learn the ceramic production centres in Western Anatolia starting from the Geometric period until the Byzantine period by defining the ceramic groups in each period
2   To be able to understand the differences between the ceramic types belonging to Geometric, Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic, Roman periods in Ionia
3   To learn about ceramic production techniques and ceramic trade in Western Anatolia from the Geometric period to the end of the Roman period
