Course Objective

This course explores the global economic and financial environment within which businesses operate. It provides the concepts, relationships and frameworks for the performance of national economies and the interaction among national economies and financial markets. It examines the fundamental determinants of long-term economic growth, Central Banking, money markets and monetary policy, capital markets, foreign exchange markets, and the balance of payments, business cycles and recessions, inflation-deflation and the fiscal policy.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1- Analyze the statistics which measure the performance of the economy (unemployment, inflation etc.)
2   2- Identify economic growth, business cycle, money and capital markets operations, foreign exchange markets and the balance of payments.
3   3- Illustrate the influences of key macroeconomic variables on financial performance of businesses.
4   4- Examine how both monetary and fiscal policies influence Türkiye and world economic growth and development.

Assessment Criteria

1- The students will describe the financial performance of a country by using macroeconomic variables.
2- The students will determine how macroeconomic developments and business decisions interact with and are impacted by the decisions of policy makers.
3- The students will forecast the financial performance of a business using the statistics related with macroeconomic indicators.
