Course Objective

In this course all notable contributors who have worked on establishing Ballet in Türkiye are analyzed through an academic and artistic point of view. An introduction is provided regarding the efforts of the founders who played an important role in laying down the foundations for the state ballet in Türkiye. By presenting detailed historic information regarding the processes and individual characters involved with the establishment of ballet in Türkiye, it is anticipated that students taking the course can pose more educated comments and promote intellectual discussions among each other regarding this important historic topic.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of the education, student will be able recognize and interpret the first choreographies and styles in the history of Turkish ballet develops.
2   To have practical knowledge about the works which constitute the repertoire of Turkish Ballet.
3   To be able to convey the artistic research process and its results as different visual and demonstrative presentations with researches.
4   Students will be able to have information about the historical and contemporary approaches to the ballet repertoire, including images, visuals, dance records covering the relevant periods, archives of performing arts and documentaries.
5   Learning the choreographic characteristics of different styles and practicing the artistic knowledge in this field.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

This course introduces the historical process of the foundation of ballet in Türkiye and the basics of its development. In these lessons, students are given the opportunity to watch video/dvd recordings or, according to the approval of the instructor, the students are provided with various research and learning tasks on given subjects. Students taking this course are expected to acquire methods for formulating objective analyses and raising critical questions and comments at a highly intellectual level.

Assessment Criteria

Students are expected to have the ability to apply analysis and learning methods. Students should provide a wide range of information about the Turkish Ballet choeographic works, choreographers, composers and creative team. While making the assessment, the level reached by the student is evaluated according to his/her knowledge.
