Course Objective

Students will gain an in-depth understanding of the basic principles, theories and practices of international human rights law and refugee law and how these two important areas of law are intertwined. Students will learn the universal values of human rights as well as international norms and standards for the protection of refugees.

1   Understanding the basic principles of international human rights law.
2   Students develop an in-depth understanding of the rights of refugees and how these rights are protected under international law.I
3   Understanding the basic principles of refugee law and refugee criteria
4   Understanding the interaction of human rights law and refugee law
5   Having knowledge about the international documents for migration and refugees.
6   Understanding the legislation on migration and refugees.

6 Legal Status of Refugees 1951 Refugee Convention and 1967 Protocol
7 Refugee definition and criteria
8 Midterm exam
9 Examination of the concept of persecution in the context of refugee status
10 The relationship between human rights standards and refugee protection
11 International mechanisms for the protection of human rights
12 Status determination procedures
13 Review of court decisions
14 General assessment.
