Course Objective

The main purpose of the course is to examine the development of typefaces that were created with Movable Type and took their source from Renaissance Humanism. Considering the socio-cultural changes from the 15th century to the 20th century; it is examined in the historical process through typesetter, printers and publishers.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1- To learn the Movable Typography and its effects on type faces.
2   2- To understand the font used first in the Movable Type System and why it was not used afterwards.
3   3- To comprehend how typefaces develop in relation to the period they are in.
4   4- To know the effect of the socio-cultural structure of the period as well as the technology in the development of typefaces.
