Course Objective

The objective of Turkish Language Course is to enable the comprehension of the structural and operational features of Turkish; and to enable the acquisition of the proper and fine use of the language which is a means of written and spoken expression.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to explain the features of language and its importance in human and social life.
2   To be able to explain the connection between language and culture.
3   To be able to explain the place of Turkish among the languages around the world.
4   To be able to explain the information about the historical periods of Turkish.
5   To be able to have a more sensitive and conscious point of view towards language.
6   To be able to explain the phonetic structure and features of Turkish.
7   To be able to explain the characteristics of corporate writing and correspondence types and to create such articles.
8   To be able to explain the features of scientific and academic writing and to create such kinds of articles.
9   To be able to use Turkish correctly, fluently and effectively in writing anda talking.
10   To be able to distinguish the use of words and sentences with different semantic features.
11   To be able to recognize, distinguish and produce different types of written expression.
12   To be able to recognize and distinguishing different types of oral expression, making oral presentations.
13   To be able to explain the important examples of written and oral expression types in Turkish literary history.
14   To be able to have a more sensitive and conscious point of view towards language.

2 Classification of languages in the world, the place of Turkish among the languages around the world Historical periods of the Turkish I (From the Beginning to the Middle Turkish Period)
3 Historical periods of the Turkish II (Middle Turkish Period) Historical periods of the Turkish III (New and Modern Turkish Periods)
4 The current state of Turkish and geographical distribution of different dialects Phonetics of Turkish
5 Spelling rules of Turkish Punctuation marks of Turkish
6 Corporate writing and correspondence types Scientific / academic writing
7 Mid-term exam. Semantics
8 Mistakes in written or oral expressions, common expression disorders and points to be considered for correction
9 Think-pieces I (Diary, Memoir, Biography, Autobiography) Think-pieces II (Travel Writing, Criticism)
