Course Objective

The main approach of the course is associated with the examination of neurobiological basis of brain disorders and research results within a contemporary frame. Lectures will cover the brain and nervous system related to brain disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), depression, bipolar disorder, addictive disorders, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Alzheimer's disease and dementia. The course also covers basic neuroanatomy, neurodevelopment, mechanisms of neural communication, research methodologies and neuroethics within the field of neurobiology.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Will be able to define key terms, concepts and theories in the neurobiology and brain disorders,
2   Will be able to learn about research methods in neuroanatomy, neuroimaging, genetics/neurochemistry and compare similarities and differences between psychology and those fields,
3   Will be able to understand the neurobiological mechanisms underlying neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative brain disorders,
4   Will develop knowledge of research designs and techniques in neurobiology/brain disorders and understand how to interpret research findings,
5   Will be able to follow current topics and recent researches in neurobiology and brain disorders and will gain critical thinking skills,
6   Will develop an interest about human behavior and human mind and also will be able to evaluate knowledge with scientific approach,
7   Will be aware of ethical issues associated with neurobiology and behave in accordance with these principles.
