Course Objective

The main purpose of this course is to teach students how to ensure data collection, data evaluation, report writing techniques by examining the research process (problem identification, data collection, data analysis and interpretation of results) and the scientific research methods (experimental method, descriptive method , historical method, et al.).

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to access to needed knowledge.
2   To be able to synthesize, analyze and interpret the information collected for research.
3   To be able to regard scientific and ethical values while collecting, evaluating the data needed as part of the research.
4   To be able to build, develop and implement a method for solving a problem within the scope of a scientific research and to evaluate the results.
5   To be able to solve the problems deriving from research applications by using research methods, developing new approaches and taking responsibilities.
6   To be able to do present the current affairs and their studies regarding research and ethic in science.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Scientific research design, objectivity problem in science, responsibilities of scientist and scientific institutions, the reasons of ethic in science
2 Definitions and causes of the defective behaviour in scientific research , research project, the search for methods of data acquisition and storage
3 Scientific research topic and identification of the problem, sources of information, literature review, goal setting, hypotheses and modeling
4 Non- empirical and empirical design types, data sources , techniques, data collection method
5 Facts and theorisation relation, measurement and scaling, reliability and validity issue
6 Sampling problem and limitedness in research (Midterm exam will also be held this week after course hour)
7 Analysis method in univariate and multivariate analyses,
8 Results and inference
9 Conversion of scientific knowledge to publication (bibliography, writing methods)
10 Conversion of scientific knowledge to publication, original thinking and scientific contributions
11 Sample Literature Debate
