Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide students with the definition of volleyball, general characteristics of volleyball game, historical development in the world and in Turkey, volleyball game rules, theoretical and practical teaching of basic techniques of volleyball game, to gain knowledge and skills related to volleyball.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to express the basic game rules of volleyball
2   To be able to learn volleyball specific warm-up forms
3   To be able to learn volleyball specific educational games
4   To be able to learn the ball familiarisation exercises, basic stances and sliding steps to be done for beginners in volleyball
5   To be able to learn and apply the characteristics of basic and developmental training

Course Contents

1 General and special warm-up forms and educational games for volleyball
2 Exercises for getting used to the volleyball, basic body positions and shuffling steps
3 Step-by-step teaching of the setting; body position without the ball, demonstration of the way of touching the ball, one-person, two-person, three-person exercises with the ball
4 Step-by-step teaching of backward, jumping, lateral setting; body position without the ball, demonstration of the way of kicking the ball, with one, two, three players with the ball
5 Step-by-step teaching of the pass; body position without the ball, demonstration of the way of kicking the ball, one-person, two-person, three-person with the ball
6 Step-by-step teaching of the backward, lateral pass; body position without the ball, demonstration of the way of kicking the ball, one-person, two-person, three-person with the ball
7 Step-by-step teaching of the underhand serve to parallel and cross court; body position without the ball, demonstration of the way to hit the ball, wall drills with one person with the ball
8 Step-by-step teaching of overhand serve in parallel and diagonal areas; body position without the ball, demonstration of the way of hitting the ball, wall exercises with one person with the ball
9 Step-by-step teaching of spiking-hitting in parallel and diagonal areas; approach without the ball on the court and in the net, arm swing, jumping, timing with the ball, spike the ball without jumping and with jumping
10 Step-by-step teaching for some diving techniques to forward and sideways; body position without the ball, demonstration of the way of hitting the ball, exercises without and with the ball
11 Service reception, digging drills; drills performed with two people, three people and in groups
12 Volleyball game rules, team building, defense and offense system for small, junior and youth category athletes in volleyball
