Course Objective

Providing three-dimensional perception of the area as an area to drilling. Identify underground problems which caused by soil-rock formation before drilling process.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Determination the geological formations planes on the map.
2   Defining the relationship between tectonic structure and formation.
3   Determine the relative positions of the formations
4   Using drilling data to define floor and ceiling planes of the formation
5   To perceive around drilling area as three-dimensional.

2 Topographic map elements (scale, Map Name, Description, Direction)
3 Topographic map elements (coordinate systems)
4 Read topographic maps (contour plots, the height of a point, the map distancebetween two points, the real distance, difference in elevation between two points, slope steepness)
5 Topographic cross-section
6 Introduction geological maps
7 Definition of floor and ceiling planes and the locations of the geological units
8 Morphology of intersections of planes
9 Midterm exam
10 Directional lines, meaning
11 Calculation of the plane pozition with the drilling data, and layer thickness problems
12 Geologic cross-sections and applications
13 Examination of the geological structures with map and cross-sections.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course will be done of theoretical lectures in classroom, and besides this will be in the form of implementation issues on topographic and geological maps. Each sample solutions and applications related to the subject will be enough. Examples of creating a debate on the teaching of subjects will be provided as well.
