Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to provide terms and concepts that form the basis of the science of chemistry and the basic theories of these concepts with associating the ceramic field.
The course will be explained with the focus on fundamentals of chemistry covering matter: properties and measurement, the basic structure of the atom, formation of molecules and ions, nomenclature of compounds, chemical bonding, and quantitative relationships in chemical equations, solids and crystal structures.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To express the properties of the substance and units of measure,
2   To explain the atomic structure of ceramic materials,
3   To classify the elements of periodic system and explain the characteristics of important group,
4   To term the chemical bonds and its compounds,
5   To solve the problems related to quantitative relationships in chemical equations,

This course will be taught in the form of theoretical lectures in the classroom. The instructor will discuss the theoretical and application concepts of the course for better understanding.
Cooperative learning method, group work, computer-based learning, presentation technique. question-answer technique, case study, problem-based learning, brainstorming.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Meaningful learning of the basic concepts given in presentations, association of concepts with each other, establishing the cause-result relationships and making comments by using the information available for problems and evaluating idea generation are carried out with mid-term and final exams, active participation to the lecture, homework.

IV. Resit exam
