Course Objective

The aim is to define the chemical and physical properties of basic minerals and to examine the general structure and properties of the Earth's crust, so that the basic rock groups (igneous, metamorphic, sedimentary rocks) can be classified and their distinctive features can be defined.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to define basic minerals and their properties.
2   To be able to know general characteristics of the interior earth
3   To be able to classify the basic rock types that make up the earth's crust.
4   To be able to compare the main mineral compositions and general texture characters of the basement rocks.
5   To be able to correlate rocks and structures in time and space
