Course Objective

It is aimed to distinguish the processed gemstones and jewels from the ancient period, which are kept and exhibited in 150 museums across Türkiye, from the current ones by examining them in terms of gemological and jewelery craftsmanship.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. To be able to outline the meaning of Archaeo-Gemology.
2   2. To be able to classify ancient gemstones in terms of gemology.
3   3. To be able to explain ancient gemstone processing and jewelry making.
4   4. To be able to compare the importance of examining antique products within the framework of Law No. 2863.
5   5. Ability to prepare an inventory related to Archaeo-Gemology.

Assessment Criteria

Five learning outcomes will be measured as a result of the theoretical midterm exam, mid-term research assignments and final + make-up exam.
1. Theoretical Midterm Exam 30% (LO1, LO2, LO3, LO4)
2. Mid-Semester Research Assignment 10% (LO5)
3. Final 60% LO1, LO2, LO3, LO4, LO5)

Every student must attend at least 70% of the classes. Any act of cheating during classes and exams will be considered as a disciplinary offense.
