Course Objective

In this course, analyzing the woven, non-woven, knitting fabrics by means of fabric samples, dealing with production methods, their technical features and usage features and dealing with patterns with specific characteristics and fabrics which has a proper name due to its structural features are aimed.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 General catagorization of fabrics according to production methods
2 Dealing with structural and aesthetic features, and usage and production features of textile fabrics
3 Fabrics with main weaves. Analyzing the fabric with samples according to weave, dyeing method, and raw materials. Discussing on the usage areas.
4 Analyzing the fabrics with plain weave and derivatives. Classification according to dyeing, patterning, raw material, yarn, grammage features. Discussion on usage areas.
5 Analyzing the fabrics with twill and derivatives. Classification according to dyeing, patterning, raw material, yarn, grammage features. Discussion on usage areas.
6 Analyzing the sateen and derivatives. Classification according to dyeing, patterning, raw material, yarn, grammage features. Discussion on usage areas.
7 Fabrics weaved via extra warp and weft systems. Samples of fabrics with warp and weft and fabrics with interlining warp and weft. Fabrics with plate, pique and seersucker. Their structural and aesthetic features, and grammages. Discussion on usage area. Multi-layered fabrics. Discussion on usage area.
8 Multi-layered fabrics. Their structural and aesthetic features, and grammages with samples. Discussion on usage area.
9 Midterm exam

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

1. Courses
Instructor gives information about the fabrics by classifying the production methods and giving samples. Students are asked to define fabric types, raw materials, production methods and usage areas properly, by using given information.

2. Revising Sessions and Class Discussions
Every week in the first hour of the lecture, instructor organizes revising sessions by giving fabric samples. Intracurricular fabric analyses are crucial for the problems solved in this environment. Students are promoted significantly to participate in class discussions and state opinions about the designs.

Course Policies and Rules

1.It is compulsory to maintain 80% of class attendance.
2. Any attempt for plagiarism result in disciplinary penalty.
3. Absence in the class is not a valid excuse for late submission of the projects and assignments.
4. In case of the late submissions, students lose point equal to one letter note for each day right after the dead-line.
