Course Objective

As an important main branch of textile finishing ; to teach aims and principles of (chemical and mechanical ) finishings in relation to fashion, design, quality and environment concepts.

4   Define chemical and mechanical finishings
5   establish the relationships between fashion, design and quality concepts.
6   define and evaluate finishing processes depending on the properties of product design.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Classification of finishings, their aims and importance. Fashion,design, quality,ecology and finishing relations.
2 Performance and quality properties of textiles ,evaluation of their usage and care properties. Test techniques and quality properties of fabrics on which Standard and special finishings were applied.
3 Special finishings giving surface effects.
4 Finishings enhancing handle, easy sewing and fragrance.
5 Water, oil and soil repellent finishings ,breathable , water prof/resist fabrics.
6 Wrinkle concept of textiles ,anti-wrinkle finishings,anti-bacterial/antimicrobial finishings.
7 Flame retardant finishings, textiles protecting from harmful effects of sun rays and insects.
8 Ecological approach: enzimatic finishings, finishings based on Biomimetics
9 Photochromic and thermochromic textiles,cosmetic textiles
10 Mechanical finishings:Calendering,finishings giving dimensional stability, sanforizing.
11 Mechanical finishings: Sueding and raising
12 Coated and laminated fabrics and their uses.
13 Nano technology applications in finishings and ecology, alternative technologies, eco textile labels, current developments.
14 Finishings for wool; milling,decaturising,antifelting etc.
