Course Objective

The aim of this course is to allow the students to rotate in different laboratories related with the MSc programme in molecular medicine in a multidisciplinary perpective, to learn about the different research methods and techniques used in research laboratory and to acquire practical knowledge in this area. Basic methods learnrd are as follows: LC-MS/MS, gene clonning, transformation, transfection, siRNA, plazmid izolation, cell culture, Gdna, RNA, protein (total, nuclear) izolation, Agaroz gel electrofhoresis, SDS-PAGE gel electrofhoresis, RT-PCR, real time PCR, western blotting, ımmunopresipitation, ELISA, immunofloresan staining, histone izolation, microarray anaysis, bioinformatics (GEO, GO, ALIGN, EntrezGene data base), cell biology methods

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To know about the different laboratories which may be involved in molecular medicine
2   To learn about the different subjects and areas of application in these laboratiores
3   To understand the basic principles of techniques used in these laboratories
4   To compare different methods in terms of principles and applications
5   To be able to apply these methods in ones own reseasrch field
6   To integrate the information acquired and prepare an oral presentation

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course will be organised as rotations in different labs. There will be short presentations from the instructors on the different methods. The students will take notes and prepare a laboratory notebook involving the information learned and processed. In addition, they will be expected to present orally what they have learned.
