Course Objective

Purpose of tissue engineering course is discussion of cell based approaches, biocompatible materials and their design, tissue structures and their foundation stones, characteristics of cells, role of stem cells in this process, applications of recent areas and ethical approaches in producing tissue engineering products by knowledge of many disciplines.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To have knowledge on analysis of tissue dynamics, cell and tissue homeostasis.
2   To study clinical orthopaedics in terms of bioengineering area.
3   To get information about culture types of 2D and 3D.
4   To follow up-to-date information.
5   To have information on ethical issues.

1 Introduction to cell and tissue engineering, cell based therapeutic approach and ethical discussions Analysis of tissue dynamics, cell and tissue homeostasis, description of signal mechanisms of cell components Extracellular matrix elements (ECM) and usage of similar materials in tissue engineering area
2 Description of cell sources, cell culture techniques and cell differentiation Importance of 2D and 3D culture types in tissue engineering Usage of stem cells in tissue engineering area
3 Tissue engineering Buildings Cartilage tissue engineering Bone tissue engineering
