Course Objective

This course aims to find anwers the questions of what is the nature of ethnicity, how is ethnicity politicized into nationalism, what is the nature of nationalism, how does nationalism often lead to political violence, what are the dynamics of political violence, and finally, what strategies can the central state use to deal with violent ethnonationalist movements

Assessment Criteria

The learner will:
1- Provide a critical understanding of the complex phenomena of ethnicity, nationalism and political violence,
2- to spark their intellectual curiosity into areas for future explanatory research on nationalism and its bound with the conceptions of nation-state and sovereignity
3- Will use library and internet resources academically

1. Attending at least 70% of lectures is mandatory.
2. Plagiarism of any type will result in disciplinary action.
3. Students are expected to read the assigned material prior to class and to participate in class discussions.
4. Students will make presentations on topics distributed by the instructor.
