Course Objective

Mythology has an important place in the history of art. It is known that Greek mythology is intensively used especially in western based works of art. Since our art education is based from western, mythology course topics are discussed under the weight contained in Greek mythology.
The course aims at introducing the subjects of Greek Mythology in works of art, and the symbols referring to the events and heroes of these subjects. Moreover, the course is geared towards enabling the students to correctly identify and describe these subjects.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   to identify stylistic characteristicts pertaining to specific periods and eras.
2   to be able to describe the stylistic characteristicts of art movements from 15th to 19th century .
3   to identify how social processes affect production of art.
4   to be able to describe concepts related to art.
5   to be able to explain how the processes of change in art and styles of artists have affected current art.
6   to be able to distinguish between the art movements and artists stles covered throughout the course.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course is conducted theoretically. Perception of art and traditional styles of cultures are presented by the instructor through exemplifications using visual materials and comparative analysis. Discussions and debates are encouraged in class in order for students to exchange their opinions. students prepare a project that is aimed at applications in the field of what they have learned.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

There will be two written exams throughout the term and 90% of the students yearly total will be assessed by these exams. Each exam will cover the class material and the questions will cover the course subjects.
In Mıd-terms and final questions comprise either closed or open ended questions or both depending on the instructor s prevision.
Students average midterm exam and a final exam or final exam below 50 below 50 are not allowed in the event the student make-up exam.

Assessment Criteria

Exams:
Exams are geared towards assessing whether the students have gained the skills described in the programme outcomes based on the measurement techniques mentioned above.

Participation in class:
Students are assessed according to, (a) their attendance records, (b) the level of kowledge displayed in their answers to the questions adressed to them by the instructor and (c) their contribution to the creation of a positive learning environment.
