Course Objective

This course contains topics which will form a basis for the field of doctorate thesis of the student in surgical diseases nursing. This course helps students create a comprehensive background, follow new information and integrate these information into their thesis studies. First block of this course which will be conducted in two blocks facilitates the comprehensive learning of the information obtained from fundamental resources. The program included in the second block allows students to investigate the latest literature in this field and evidence-based guides and use them in their thesis studies.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students explain the current and advanced level information which will provide basis for their doctorate theses comprehensively in the field of surgical diseases nursing
2   They evaluate and use the current and advanced level information which will provide basis for their doctorate theses systematically in the field of surgical diseases nursing
3   They follow the new developments concerning the topics that will provide basis for their doctorate theses in the field of surgical diseases nursing and can integrate them into their thesis studies.
4   They examine the evidence-based practices concerning their fields of doctorate thesis in the surgical diseases nursing and put them into practice.
5   They contribute to the solution of social and scientific problems with the current and advanced level information which will provide basis for their fields of doctorate thesis in the surgical diseases nursing.

1 Anatomy and physiology of the breast Tasks and responsibilities of breast care nursing Epidemiology, etiology and risk factors in the breast cancer Role of the nurse in prevention of breast cancer and risk identification Symptoms and findings, early detection methods in breast cancer, their application frequencies in the world and in Türkiye, role of the nurse
2 Lymphedema resulting from breast cancer and its treatment, protection and care Breast cancer during pregnancy Psychosocial problems in the breast cancer and nursing approaches Requirements and training of the individiual with breast cancer and the family Pregnancy, sexual life and fertility following the breast cancer Oncoplastic surgery and nursing approaches

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

1. Each student prepares the topics related to the thesis field comprehensively in the first block of the course and submits a report after determining the data that should be integrated into the thesis.
2. Each student submits a report by summarizing the latest literature and evidence-based guides concerning the thesis field in the second block of the course. Besides, students review their preparation and planning for the thesis suggestion based on new information obtained in this process.
Homeworks and reports will be prepared in APA format in computer.

Assessment Criteria

- In the exams, the abilities of interpreting, remembering, taking a decision, explaining, classifying and combining the information will be evalauted.
