Course Objective

The art of sculpture in the Roman Republican period was influenced by all phases of Ancient Greek sculpture and showed a unique style development. The aim of the course is to examine the elements influenced by Greek sculpture and the transformations of these elements in Roman Republican sculpture and to provide more recognition of Roman Republican sculpture, which is little known compared to the Imperial period.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To have knowledge about the political history of the Roman Kingdom and the Republican period
2   Relations with Hellenic culture and Hellenic sculpture in the Roman Republican period
3   To learn Hellenic influences in Roman Republican period portraiture
4   To learn the elements of Hellenic sculpture affecting the sculpture of the Roman Republican period and to learn the sculpture of the Republican period
