Course Objective

The aim of this course is researching on Jewish history from beginning which is the first appearance of them in history till the current days, with main resources. To study on the periods of 1th and 2nd chapels and the Diaspora period that had begun after the distraction of the chapel. From these processes, to follow all other events and developments historically until the Israel State was established; and additionally to find out after-events of this establishment of the state.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   They will know the events faced by Jewish people from the beginning of their history.
2   They will understand the reasons why the Jewish people were not erased in history despite all these events.
3   They will analyze the Jewish people in terms of their successes in science, in economy and in other areas today and yesterday.
4   They will understand the backgrounds of their relations with neighbours in state level of Israel.
5   They will be able to analyze the Jewish people sociologically and psychologically by looking at their religious texts.

2 -The life in Egypt (210 years); 94 years expanding; 116 years of slavery; the period Moses; the battle of Moses; 10 troubles; deportation (exile) from Egypt; Sina Mountain (1 year);
3 -On the soil of Israel (850 years): Yeshu; Judges period; kingdoms period; King Soul; King Davut; King Suleyman; the period of after Kingdoms; separating the state
4 -Asur invasion; the end of the state of Israel; Babil invasion;
5 -500 years of recession;
6 -The distraction of II. Bet Amikdash and first 300 years of exile
7 -Mid-term Exam
8 -500 years of Tora centres in Mesopotamia (Until 1038 B:C);
9 -The expanding of Kabala; different Jewish movements;
10 -East Europe in 1700 s; Hasidism (Poland);

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Homework/presentation: Each student has to prepare homework and present it in class.
Exam: In one semester, there are two, one mid-term and a final, exams sit in and classical.
Attendance: is obligatory.
Students achievements are calculated from the results of mid-term exam, homework assignments, final exam and active participation to the lectures

Assessment Criteria

The attendances of students are being considered and have to be at least 70%.
The grade is calculated as if Mid-term Exam 40%; homework/presentation 20% Final exam 40%
