Course Objective

The aim of this course is a comparative study of stages of Türkiye s almost 200 years old of modernization with other modernization efforts.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   know about scope, content and sources of modernization theory and the Turkish Modernization
2   learn the terms traditional society and modern society , and modernization/democratizations schools
3   explain that Ottoman modernization prepared the basis of the republican modernization project
4   review modernization of Türkiye comparing with western modernization
5   analyze breaking points of the Ottoman and Republican modernizations
6   analyze causes of the problems which Türkiye lived in modernization process
7   review process of modernization of Türkiye comparing with those in Europe and throughout the World
