Course Objective

Objectives of this course are:
*To acquire basic knowledge on the concepts and processes that form the foundations of molecular biology
*To gain an understanding of the biology of living cells

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Outlines the structure and biochemical features of nucleic acids.
2   Recounts the basic knowledge on replication, transcription, post-transcriptional modifications and translation in eukaryotes and prokaryotes
3   Describes the processes that transforms a polypeptide chain in to a functional protein (post-translational modifications, protein folding, protein targeting, protein degradation ect.)
4   Knows and repeats the genetic regulation mechanisms in prokaryotes and eukaryotes.
5   Outlines genetic recombination mechanisms.
6   Describes the cell skeleton and its role in cell motility & mobility
7   Explains features of the cell surface
8   Describes the basic concept of the cell cycle and its regulation
