Course Objective

This course will enable participants to gain a full understanding of the importance of creative expression and language development and will enable students to develop developmentally appropriate language activities, equipment and supplies for the early childhood classroom.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Articulate the theoretical foundations and the relationship to practice in language and creative expression curriculum areas.
2   Utilize a diverse range of appropriate teaching strategies including designing (preschool) outdoor learning environments that serve as a primary delivery method for language and creative expression curricula.
3   Plan language and arts curriculum activities consistent with recognized early childhood education content standards.
4   Write appropriate language and creative expression outdoor curriculum plans based on observations of specific children.
5   Engage with children during play, routines, and planned activities in ways that enhance observations of specific children
6   Engage with children during play, routines, and planned activities in ways that enhance language and art learning and development.
7   Use a variety of techniques to assess children's learning and to evaluate the language and creative expression outdoor curriculum.
