Course Objective

The aim of this course is to introduce the concept of mathematical modelling in mathematics education, to teach mathematical modelling applications, and to examine the working areas of mathematical modelling in academic studies.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Introduce mathematical modelling and modelling perspectives 2   Examine mathematical modelling applications in mathematics education field 3   Compare national and international studies in the field of mathematical modelling in mathematics education 4   Identify needs in the field of mathematical modelling in the literature 5   Plan a research in the field of mathematical modelling in line with identified needs

Week Subject Description 1 Recognize basic concepts of mathematical modelling 2 Examine mathematical modelling perspectives 3 Examine and compare academic studies based on different modelling perspectives 4 Investigate researchers who realize national and international mathematical modelling studies 5 Identify similarities and differences of mathematical modelling studies in national and international fields 6 Identify similarities and differences of mathematical modelling studies in national and international fields 7 Midterm exam 8 Examine studies regarding teacher education in the field of mathematical modelling 9 Examine studies regarding teacher education in the field of mathematical modelling 10 Determine needs in the mathematical modelling literature 11 Prepare and apply research plan in line with the identified needs 12 Application of the research plan 13 Application of the research plan 14 Share results of the research 15 Final exam
