Course Objective

History of Political Thought in Modern Türkiye course; It aims to examine the adventure of the political thought tradition from the Ottoman Empire to Modern Türkiye. In other words, to evaluate Ottoman-Turkish modernization and its effects on the tradition of political thought through intellectual movements, actors and publishing activities. To read the literature by examining the political and ideological debates that took place during the process and the arguments put forward by the parties of these debates from a comparative perspective. In addition, to reveal the ideological discourses within the tradition of Political Thought in Modern Türkiye and the sources of intellectual inspiration of these political approaches, mentality patterns, institutions, magazines and portraits of thinkers that have an impact on political thought.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Being able to explain Turkish modernization
2   Being able to understand the intellectual tradition created by Turkish modernization
3   Ability to analyze the ideological legacy from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic
4   Being able to understand the political intellectual movements that are effective in modern Türkiye
5   Learning about opinion leaders and publications in modern Türkiye

Attendance at 70% of the classes is mandatory. The faculty member reserves the right to conduct practical exams. The grades obtained from these exams will be added to the midterm and final exam grades.
