Course Objective

In this course, the sociological dimension of the phenomenon of consumption will be evaluated in the context of its relationship with the religious institution based upon postmodern social theories.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Learns the fundamental theories and concepts related to the consumer society.
2   Comprehends the nature of the relationship between consumption, alienation and religious life.
3   Explicates the sociological meaning of the relationship between current consumption patterns and religious structures.
4   Analyzes the relationship between the recent meanings of the concept of consumption in individual, social and cultural contexts and traditional religious structures.
5   Evaluates the impacts of novel socio-cultural life styles shaped by globalization on religious interactions, structures and institutions.
