Course Objective

To provide the philosophical view by examining human matter in the basic topics of Ancient Philosophy. To analyze the approaches on ethics and the state in ancient Philosophy that has important role in the emergence of philosophical thought.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The student learns the basic problems of moral and political philosophy.
2   The students understand discussions in the Ancient Philosophy.
3   The student comprehends human philosophy and thoughts in the unity of history.
4   Students can think and develop the skills in analyzing philosophical methodology by examining Socrates, Plato and Aristotle etc.
5   Expertise of Students increases by reading selected texts of Ancient philosophers relevant to their fields.

1 Pre-Socratic philosophers' thoughts on being and Human Problem.
2 Ancient Philosophy (Sophists) examines human being and Human Values.
3 Socrates' fight with Sophists and Socrates' opinion of happiness and morality.
4 Plato's Philosophy of Knowledge and Existence.
5 Opinion of Plato's ideal state
6 Plato passes from the ideal state to Laws and Critics of Plato's ideal state.
7 Human, Ethics and Religion in Plato's Thought.
8 Existence and Human Being in Aristotle's Epistemology
9 Aristotle's views on Human and Existence
10 Aristotle's views on Morality
11 Opinion of Aristotle's State and Critics.
12 Epicureanism; Human, Morality and Society in Epicureanism.
13 Opinion of Old and New Stoa's Existence, Human, Ethics, and State.
14 Plotinus and opinion of new Platonism's existence an Human being.
