Course Objective

This course aims to explore translation/translators in the context of multilingualism and multiculturalism from social, economic, political and cultural perspectives from the Ottoman period to the present time.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students are able to evaluate the historical evolution of translation from the Ottoman period to the present.
2   Students are able to relate translation activity with social, cultural and political events in different periods of history.
3   Students are able to look into the factors effective in their choice of texts to be translated and their decisions during the process of translation and approaches to the texts.
4   Students are able to explore the identity of the translator in different periods.
5   Students are able to analyze the texts written by translators about translation.
