Course Objective

The aim of this course is to discuss the causes of climate change, its possible consequences in tourism and adaptation strategies, to give information about the measures to be taken to reduce the carbon footprint of tourism enterprises.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students completed this course will be informed about the basic concepts related to climate change (carbon and water cycle, greenhouse gases, carbon footprint) and will be able to discuss the sectors affected by climate change and their implications on tourism.
2   Students will have information about international negotiations on climate change and be able to discuss the situation in Türkiye.
3   Students will be able to evaluate the destinations that will be positively and negatively affected by climate change and the adaptation strategies of these destinations.
4   Students will have information about measures to reduce carbon emissions in tourism enterprises and techniques for calculating carbon footprint and will be able to offer suggestions on how these calculations can be performed in tourism enterprises.
5   Students will be able to prepare consumer information statements and training contents for the employees about reducing carbon emissions in tourism enterprises.
