Course Objective

The objective of this course is to learn the main concepts, types, models and processes of innovation management; to understand innovation as a manageable process and compose institutional innovation management structure in tourism industry; to select appropriate approach for a given innovation and knowledge management challenge in a tourism case and to find solutions to knowledge management problems in tourism cases and to know how to improve the process of the knowledge and innovation within tourism industry.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Identify different types of crises that can affect the tourism industry.
2   Understand the potential economic, social, and environmental impacts of crises on tourism destinations and businesses.
3   Conduct risk assessments to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities within the tourism sector.
4   Develop comprehensive crisis management plans and protocols tailored to the needs of tourism destinations and businesses.
5   Establish emergency response teams and protocols for effective crisis preparedness and response.
6   Communicate effectively with tourists, employees, media, government agencies, and other stakeholders during a crisis.
7   Coordinate recovery efforts to minimize the long-term impact of a crisis on tourism destinations and businesses.
8   Foster collaboration and coordination among stakeholders, including government agencies, tourism organizations, businesses, and local communities.
9   Identify lessons learned and best practices to inform future crisis management strategies and enhance overall resilience.
10   Recognize the ethical responsibilities of tourism stakeholders in crisis situations, including considerations for the safety and well-being of tourists and local communities.

Assessment Criteria

Assessment criteria for a course in Crisis Management in Tourism should be designed to evaluate the participants' understanding of key concepts, their ability to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, and their proficiency in developing and implementing effective crisis management strategies.

Course Policies and Rules

Attendance is compulsory for 70% of the lectures.
Active participation in class discussions, group activities and simulations is required to develop learning outcomes.
Evaluation criteria and grading rubrics will be given to students at the beginning of the course.
