Course Objective

Understand and discuss fundamental concepts and topics related to strategic management.

1   Analyze international environment culturally, politically, commercially and financially.
2   Acquire and asses international business strategies.
3   Comment on strategies of international firms and how national competition works.
4   Analyze international business strategy practices adopted towards different countries.
5   Interpret international business strategy practices in Turkey and evaluate their relations with international strategies.

1 Introduction to course, fundamental concepts of International Business, global and transnational companies.
2 International companies and their understanding of management.
3 International culture
4 Globalization, environmental uncertainty, mission, goals and strategy.
5 Competitive environmental analysis, industry analysis, resource based approach for environmental analysis, success factors and core capabilities.
6 Organizational strategy for international companies
7 Production and marketing strategies for international companies. (Midterm exam will also be held this week after course hour)
8 Global leadership, strategic management of human resources
9 Political risks and negotiation strategies
10 International financial and technology management
11 Corporate strategies and national competition.
12 Business strategies in Turkey and case study
13 International business strategies and country comparisons
14 Overall evaluation and presentation of term projects

Assessment Criteria

Assessment includes; case studies, role playing, discussion, team work, presentation and written examination besides theoretical analysis. Students will be assessed according to their midterm and final examinations, presentation of term projects and participation (Please see: Course Policies and Rules).

Rules related to midterm and final exams are: Questions are not general but specific, case study analyses should be made by using of proper terminology. Following points will be considered on this matter. Ability to use terminology properly, degree of consistency between cause and effect relationships of concepts. The solution to the problems should be well grounded, scientific, logical and convincing. Readings related to the course and having a grasp of the topics are important.
