Course Objective

By this course it is aimed to teach the students and researches who will make experimental animal study, ethical rules and use ethical principles in the experimental animal studies that they plan.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. To be able to understand basic ethical rules in experimental animal studies.
2   2. To be able to assimilate international and national laws about experimental animals
3   3. To be able to understand the universal declaration of animal rights

5   5. To be able to understand the structure of Central Ethical Committee of Animal Experiments
6   6. To be able to understand the structure of Local Ethical Committee of Animal Experiments
7   7. To be able to apply the ethical principles in experimental animal studies

2 Statements against animal experiments
3 Legal status of animal experiments in Türkiye and in The World, Ethics in animal experiments, legislation
4 Ethical principles that should be obeyed in animal experiments
5 Importance of housing conditions, welfare and behavior of experimental animals
6 Animal welfare Control of pain and distress
7 Importance of anesthesia and analgesia in experimental animals
8 Mid term
9 Important principles in application of surgical techniques
10 Important points that should be considered in feed, water and sleep restrictions
11 Euthanasia and application principles
12 Preparation of application to ethical committee of experimental animal research
13 Social effects of animal experiments in scientific studies Discussion of an example project
